Ingredients
16 oz package dried northern beans
1½ lbs ham shank, chopped in big chunks
1 small onion-diced water, enough to cover beans
⅓ cup light brown sugar
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Step 1:
Sort the beans for any pebbles and then rinse under running water
Step 2:

Add the rinsed beans, chopped ham shank, salt and pepper into the crockpot. Add the onion-diced water to cover the content of the crockpot.
Step 3:
Cover the crockpot and then cook on high setting for 2 hours, then turn to low setting and cotinue cooking for another 3 hours or till the beans becomes tender
Step 4:
Take out the ham shanks and skin all of the meat from the bones,
Step 5:
Return the meat only to the crockpot then add the brown sugar and combine gently till the brown sugar mixes well.
Step 6:
Serve and enjoy.
